How Often Should You Blog?

Blogging Is About Shaping Ideas

I really would like to answer the question of how often should you blog right away, but I love telling stories so here we go!!! As many of you know I am involved  in several Facebook groups concerning the topic of marketing.  Whether it be marketing on pay per click, search engine marketing, or social media marketing.  But the one method that I love beyond all others is content marketing. Of course content can take many forms on the internet.  With video, audio, images, and text being the primary forms.   But all of them are presented on the internet as a web page, or more commonly called a blog (weblog for you ole timers like me). But what is a blog really for? And how often should you blog? How often should you blog Some will say that your blog should be a place for you to attract people so you can sell to them.  These are the marketing blogs. Some will say that a blog can be a place where can gather people with like ideas. And others will through the old guru fan boy thought process that its a  place where you provide value and then money will come falling out of your DVD drive. But in my opinion, and that of many others, is that a blog is really a place to get your voice heard. And the benefit of this wonderful forum is that you get to express yourself freely without censorship.  This is your land and you get to do anything that you want with it. And your readers will love you and respect you for it.  They will do you the honor of taking time  to comment on your blog.  They will interact with you.  And more importantly, they will interact with each other. By doing so not only will your opinion be heard.  But any opposing opinions will be heard as well.  Its called a discussion, and that is how true problems are solved. So why not have your blog be the place that discussion is taking place? discussion forum

So how often should you blog?

So back to those Facebook groups that I was talking about. In one of my groups there was a question of how are you supposed to comment on a blog if there is not fresh content on it. My reply was that it shouldn’t matter how often a blogger posts new content.  What should matter is that the content was good enough that there are already comments  on it.  And if your are trying to build a relationship with both that blogger and his readers.  You as a visitor should join in on the conversation.  If of course you have something intelligent to say. Of course, as with anything, there were others that have a very different opinion on that. One was that if the commenter was a frequent visitor of a blog.  And they had already commented on a specific article, they would not comment again. Now I don’t particularly agree with this for a couple reasons. First, its clear to me that the only reason they are commenting on your blog in the first place is to get a backlink to their own site. And second, most (not all) will only leave half-hearted comments on your site.  The others who do leave really great comments will never come back to that page.  So it doesn’t matter how often should you blog, because they will only hit your site and not come back.  Which is really a shame because your readers may want to hear more about what they have to say on the subject. speak up

How often should you blog already?!?! Should You Blog Everyday?

Yes And No. I know, I’m complicated, let me explain. You see you shouldn’t just blog for the sake of blogging. The fact of the matter is that if you have enough to say, blog everyday.  If you know that much about your subject you deserve to be recognized  as an expert in your field. But what if you don’t have that amount of knowledge on your topic.  Should you blog everyday anyway? No Let me rephrase that. HELL NO. Look people are smart and they can pick out a fake in a heartbeat. And if your new to a topic the old pro’s will call you out in a second and ruin any credibility you may have had.  And believe me, its almost impossible to get it back. The real key to blogging is consistency. If you choose to blog once a month.  Then blog once a month. If you choose to blog once a day.  Then blog once a day. The real key is to blog with a purpose.  And to promote your content.

An Example Of Consistency Combined With Promotion

There are many ways to promote you content on the net, but in case you didn’t know here is a short list:

  • Press Releases
  • Video
  • Social Media
  • Guest Blogging
  • Article Directories
  • Did I mention social media?
  • Pay Per Click
  • Banner Advertising (new name for this is media buys)
  • Syndication groups
  • Syndication software

The cold hard fact is that it does not matter if you write the next best selling novel on your site.   If people don’t know about it, they are never going to read it.  So you can blog everyday to your hearts content, and if people don’t know its there.  Your wasting your time. Derek  Halpern knew this. If you don’t know who he is you really should.  Especially if your a blogger. He was in several niches  before he took up blogging as a business.  But when he did get started he is a home run. Check out his site SocialTriggers.com He posted a new blog post about once a month.  There are some times when he posted a bit more frequently.  And there are times when he posted with less frequency.  But one thing that he did with every post was to promote  each and every piece. Don’t take my word for it, watch this video. So, how often should you blog? Blog as often as you want to make sure you provide value. Don’t blog everyday because someone told you to. Don’t blog every week if you can’t really offer something new and valuable to your readers. But when you do blog, promote promote promote. And if people don’t want to comment on your blog more that once to interact with your reader.  Were they really your target audience in the first place?  Or were they just going through the motions to get a backlink to from your site? Either way who really cares about how often should you blog, you and your real readers will do just fine with whatever frequency you choose. P.S. Daily Blogging Sales Plan for 2013

You Have To Have A Sales Plan Even Online

Sales are the lifeblood of any business.  It doesn’t matter if you have a brick and mortar business.  Or one that is entirely based online.  If your doing really well you have a combination of both.

So creating a sales plan is really a great investment in your business.

Since my business is primarily focused on the online space I wanted to offer you a great tip to getting the most out of your blog.  And to make sure that your leveraging the traffic that you get.  After all, writing all day every day doesn’t mean anything if your not getting money into your pocket.  Hits to your website do not translate to money into your pocket.

sales plan

Here are the first steps I take after publishing a blog post…

1. Submit your Blog to Content Aggregators like AllTop.com

If you have a top-notch blog that regularly publishes valuable content (which you should), then you can submit your blog to Alltop.com.
AllTop is the creation of Guy Kawaski. Alltop aggregates content from leading blogs around the Web, allowing you to get the hottest new information all in one place.
As a blogger, Alltop can also be a tremendous traffic source if you can get your blog listed. You can submit your site at http://alltop. com/submission/

2. There are also lots of other niche content aggregators that you can submit your blog to. Some examples include AffBuzz.com, AffDaily.com, and Yakezie.com.
Getting your blog accepted into sites like AllTop and AffBuzz can send you consistent traffic every week as long as you’re continuously publishing new content.

3. Submit Your Latest Post to BlogEngage.com

4. Submit to BizSugar.com

5. Submit to Inbound.org

6. Submit Blokube.com

7. Submit to FamousBloggers.net Community News Section

8. Submit to Serpd.com.  This is actually a very well moderated SEO community.  So I don’t submit all of my content to this site.  Another trick is to make sure that you share information from other websites.  You need to do this to ensure your actually passing on great information to the community.

9. Submit to MySEOCommunity.com. This is another SEO based community and may or may not be good for your content.  It is a great place to get content ideas or get your SEO questions asked.  I regularly visit and see what people in my niche are discussing.

10. Contact related Scoop.it & Paper.li pages. These are content aggregators that pull together the very best content on thousands of different topics. As a content creator, you can come in – search for your specific topic – and submit your latest article to the creator of that particular Scoop.it or Paper.li page.  The two links there are to my pages, feel free to submit your content if they apply.

But remember – it must be really good content. These pages are collecting the best
from around the web.

Social media only works when you create content that matters.

Using the 10 steps above, you can generate your first couple hundred visitors to your latest pillar post.

Call To Action Of Your Sales Plan

Finally make sure your adding a call to action to your blog posts.

You wrote that content for a reason and it needs to be congruent with your website.

For example.

If you are writing in order to build your subscriber base then you need to ensure you tell people to subscribe to your list.

You can do that with pop-up boxes.  Sidebar optin forms.  In content opt in forms.  Whatever you choose.  Just make sure that your doing it.

Top 10 Small Business Marketing Blogs Today In 2012

Who Do You Listen To About Marketing?

First let me say that the image above has absolutely nothing to do with the post.  I just thought it was funny and people would get a kick out of it.  I know my wife did, she looked like this after she saw it. Furious  But it was worth it, she was mad at me today anyway.  Something about doing the dishes or what not.

Anywho, lets get rolling on this post, what do you say?

When I began marketing online, or anything for that matter, I have learned that you need to qualify your mentors.  You don’t want to be following some one hit wonder and find out later that they just got lucky.  Or worse yet, they are someone who is just repeating some stuff that they learned somewhere else.  You need to be listening to people who are actually doing what they are teaching.

For example, lets say you want to learn how to make money in the real estate business.  Who are you going to listen to?  Lets say you had access to anyone that you wanted.  I personally would choose Donald Trump.  They guy has been in and out of bankruptcy a couple times.  But today he’s still worth billions.  I wouldn’t listen to some TV reality show star who is famous because of the show.

In marketing I choose to listen to people who are out there doing today.  Not someone who has taken to just teaching it.  With that in mind here is how I qualified each of these small business marketing blogs and have declared them my Top 10 Marketing Blogs for 2012.

How I Qualified Them

The first factor I picked is probably the most important.  Quality of the content on the site.  If the content provided me absolutely no value or was just a teaser to get an opt-in I passed.  Nothing worse than reading a post from an expert only to get told you only received half the story.  Why write information if your only going to give up half.  Now don’t get me wrong I don’t expect people to give away the farm for free, but at least live up to the headline right?

The second factor I used was traffic to the site.  How can you be good marketer or a recommend resource if you don’t have people coming to your site all the time?

The final factor that I used was the amount of people who made comments on the site.  Good quality content tends to generate tons of comments from loyal fans.

What you need to set up your own blog?

Getting your own network marketing business blog set up isn’t really that complicated if you know how to use the tools that are provided for you in most hosting accounts. This post is a real simple overview of how to set up a WordPress blog on your own domain.  The actual process which I go through literally only takes 4 min. and 30 seconds once your  hosting account is set up.

Obviously there’s more to the buying domain name like transferring it to your host and I’ll go through that another video if you want.  This one is just simply assuming that you have already purchased your domain name.

Domain Name

I recommend that you use GoDaddy, its more expensive than NameCheap, but I like the service better.

Hosting

I prefer a host that has the 2 below functions available to you.  Another reason for this is simply ease-of-use and once you get the hang of it, installation of your WordPress blog will become 2nd nature.

-CPanel

-Fantastico

I recommend using HostGator for your hosting services simply because of one the price and to the customer service is excellent.  Regardless of the situation you’re in you be able to access the customer service agents 24 hours a day 365 days a year.  I had a run into a problem yet with my blog that they haven’t been able to fix.

FTP Software

I have used a few different programs and I recommend you go with FileZilla its actually the easiest to use.  And on top of that files allows a free program there really isn’t any learning curve to it all the FTP instructions are in your post so that you can load things up onto your blog.  Again if you need a tutorial video on how to use FileZilla over please leave your request in the comments below.

Syndicate Your Blog On Facebook

Why Should You Syndicate Your Blog?

In order to understand why you should syndicate your blog you need to understand the power of back links and social media as they relate to SEO for your network marketing business website these days.

Since Google completed the panda/farmer update and then created their own social network with Google+ there has been a lot of talk about how social media plays a role in the search engine results.  There are more than a few professional SEO’s who say that back linking on social media sites via sharing is going to be the wave of future.

Time will tell if this is correct, but I will say that social media linking is proving to work very effectively within Google and Bing search results right now.  This blog alone generates over 1500 social back links a post and its rankings within the search engines are increasing everyday, and its traffic with it.

But Is Facebook A Good Way To Syndicate Your Blog?

Facebook has many good points and bad points when in comes to you using it to syndicate your blog.  Bad it that there are several thousand groups on the site that allow you to place your link and “share” it with others.  This makes you look like a panhandler on the street.  Truth be told, the groups do work to provide some traffic but they do little in the way of back linking.  Google does not index Facebook groups.

The good thing about syndicating on Facebook is that Google does index pages.  If you can join a page where you can syndicate your blog that is not covered with spam links then you have hit the motherload.

The bad here is that unless that particular page has moderators watching it like a hawk, spammers can run wild all over it.

What I have done is create a Facebook page that does just that.  This is a place where you can syndicate your blog content with like minded people who will comment on yours blog and share it with the world.  The unified tribe will start to syndicate your blog via places like Digg,StumbleUpon, Onlywire, and Google+ just to name a few.

Three Ways for Your Blog to Make You Money

How would you like to turn your blog into money in the bank?

The fastest, easiest way is to monetize the internet is to start up a blog and since a blog is so flexible, there are also plenty of ways to do it.

Here are the top three ways:

1. Sell your products.

This is the most obvious way to make money with a blog: If you have products or services to sell, then promote them on your blog.

You can put permanent banners and text ads in the sidebar. You can also weave your product links into your actual blog posts.

Example: Let’s suppose you’re selling a fishing book on your blog. You can post a “Top 10 New Fishing Lures For 2011″ article on your blog. And then at the end of the article you can include a link to your book, “101 Tips for Catching More Fish” If people like your 10 tips, then they’ll be eager to buy your book.

2. Sell affiliate products.

Don’t have your own products?

No problem: You can sell affiliate products. That means that you get a commission every time someone buys a product or service through your affiliate link.

There are plenty of big companies that have affiliate programs. One of the most popular affiliate programs for physical products is the Amazon.com program, simply because your buyers already know and trust Amazon.com.

But if you’re going to sell downloadable information products, then one of the best affiliate programs is via Clickbank.com, where you’ll find thousands upon thousands of products to sell. Best of all, the commission rates are generous. You’ll see them as high as 50% and even 75%!

3. Advertise your list building offer.

Still another way to make money on your blog is by showing an optin offer on your blog.  I am sure you have heard it before, the age old saying “the money is in the list” and lead generation is something that a blog is very useful for.  Your blog will allow you to establish yourself as an authority on the net, thus encouraging people to read your posts.  As a result they will optin on your list for more information from you.

Here’s the biggest benefit of this method:

You don’t have to sell a thing. You don’t have to convince anyone to buy.  You simple send them the information that you promised them and constantly direct them to your offer.  Of course if you are just starting out, capturing telephone numbers and calling your leads cannot be discounted, but once you are recognized on the net as a leader, signups for your products or company will come on autopilot.

Why does a blog work so well?

Because blogging gives you the opportunity to showcase your expertise. When you establish yourself as a trusted expert, people are more likely to buy from you.

All you have to do is post good content on your blog to attract prospects.
