What The Heck Is A Niche!?!

If your like me, when you started internet marketing you network marketing company you first learned that you need to identify your niche.  And if your also like me you asked the age old question, what the heck is a niche?  Well here’s the answer, if someone else hasn’t already explained it to you.

Basically in as non-blabby way that I can write it, a niche is what your business is about.  Gold and Silver coins is a niche, health and wellness is a niche, legal service is a niche.

The problem with all of these niche’s (is that even a word?) is that some, if not all, have some type of industry specific gobollygook speak that confuses the heck out of new people.  I mean, look back at when you first started, how much of the product or service jargon of your company did you understand?

So in keeping with my whole EzineArticle.com template series I present you with my number five of my most valuable templates from their site.  Now let me tell you that yes these articles are designed to teach newbies to the industry the ins and outs of the business.  But they are also the most complex so you really have to be on your game when using them.

As a matter of fact I wouldn’t suggest you employ this template until you are 1) comfortable with your niche and company, 2) have a team that needs this information.  Trying to write these articles for the average marketer only really has education as a target and those people aren’t really likely to join you in your company.  They already have one, or else why would they be looking up the terms in the first place right?

Of course there are exceptions to the rule in any niche but you understand what I am trying to say.  So lets get to it, I now present you with EzineArticles.com’s Niche Article Template.

How do you address complex concepts that require industry-specific language in your niche articles?

Do you:

… write under the assumption that your target audience knows the meaning of all the niche jargon you’re using?

… try to avoid complex ideas and, instead, target the general reader with little industry knowledge?

… give brief definitions to explain words or concepts that may be new to some, but not all?

There’s no “right” answer to this question all the time. Each article should be crafted toward the people you want to reach with that specific message (a.k.a. your primary target audience).

niche jargon Niche Article TemplateLet’s face it, because there are people out there with every range of knowledge you can imagine, it’s not easy to please everybody and make them feel like you’re speaking directly to them. But, if you have an appropriate mix of beginner, intermediate and advanced articles, you will be able to reach a wide range of people through your entire article inventory.

Today, we have the perfect article template for you to share complex concepts with a more general audience – The Niche Jargon Article Template.

With a little thought on your part, this template produces an article that’ll help bring those people up to speed on terms and expressions used in your niche. Here’s how to get started:

  • Pinpoint Confusion Areas – Pick an area in your niche with a complex vocabulary. You might discover it by seeing or hearing a lot of questions from people confused by it. Or, maybe it’s a newer concept that confused you the first time you saw it so you had to look it up.
  • Form the Introduction – Start by writing down why the niche has specific jargon. Think about how technical the niche is. Are there words that are only used in this niche and nowhere else? Or, are there words that have multiple meanings in different contexts that you think should be disambiguated? This can become the introduction of your article.
  • Lay Out the Terms – List out the terms and what they mean in your own words. It’s really important that you use your own words. If they wanted the straight dictionary definition, they could have looked it up themselves. Here’s your chance to offer your unique angle of expertise on each term or concept you introduce.
  • Explain Their Importance – Next, explain why the words are important and why the reader should start incorporating them into their vocabulary.
  • Wrap it Up – Finally, recap the terms you introduced and why they need to be remembered.

I told you it wasn’t the easiest of templates, but no its not that hard either.  A newbie to an industry can pull it off but I believe that this template is best employed when your other templates like the How To Article Template are already bringing traffic to your site.

Here is a challenge for you though!  I challenge you to identify five terms that are in your niche that you don’t know or didn’t know when you first started, research their meaning, and them employ this template.  Your niche article assignments are due next week (just kidding, you have till Friday :) ).

Defining your niche is super important… not just defining your niche but understanding the needs and wants of the people who are IN the niche! When you can be really clear about those things it helps you connect on a totally different level! I’d forgotten about the EZA templates, so thanks for the reminder!
